Reduce scope 3 emissions without compromising performance
Bio-circular solutions: sustainable quality
Developing environmentally responsible construction materials is a priority at Wavin. To support sustainable construction, we’ve created a range of bio-circular solutions, designed to reduce environmental footprints without compromising quality.
What is bio-circular or bio-based?
The terms ‘bio-circular’ and ‘bio-based’ refer to materials produced from renewable biomass sources such as plants, trees, fruit, grass and other organic matter. Unlike fossil-based raw materials, these sources absorb and store CO2 as they grow and can naturally regenerate within short timeframes.
Today, ethene/ethylene, the core building block used to manufacture materials like PP, PE and PVC, can be derived from biomass through biorefining rather than traditional petroleum-based distillation. This makes it possible to produce bio-circular products that reduce CO2 emissions by over 75% compared to conventional PVC production.
High-quality solutions, low-carbon emissions
Manufactured correctly, bio-based products maintain the same standards of performance, durability and longevity as traditional petroleum-based plastics. Bio-circular ethene is chemically identical to the fossil variant, so it’s strong, light and affordable. It’s also easier to recycle and significantly reduces CO2 emissions. Here are the benefits, at a glance:
- A CO₂ reduction of at least 75%
- Use of circular and renewable raw materials
- Maintaining technically identical product properties compared to fossil-based product ranges.
ISCC certification
Wavin's bio-circular products are produced from certified biomass that does not compete with the food chain. Our latest bio-based solutions are certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), which monitors, reports and audits to ensure a transparent chain.
ISCC certification guarantees that the supply chain:
- is demonstrably bio-based
- does not come at the expense of biodiversity and human rights
- sustainably sources materials and processes these with no conflict with the food chain.
Wavin’s bio-based portfolio
We’ve introduced bio-based polymers to various product suites within our solutions portfolio. These bio-circular products help drive down construction projects’ Scope 3 emissions, while still delivering the high quality and durability that’s essential to optimal performance and longevity.
Wavin Apollo PVC-O
Wavin Apollo PVC-O drinking water pipes are uniquely strong and durable, thanks to our extrusion process, where the material is deformed in both the longitudinal and peripheral directions.
Wavin Ventiza
The Wavin Ventiza air distribution system features a low-profile oval duct design with smooth internal surfaces to improve airflow efficiency and enable installation in shallow floor or ceiling spaces.
Bio-based PE-RT underfloor heating pipes
Our underfloor heating pipes combine low-carbon raw materials with optimal durability and performance, making them an essential part of modern heating systems.
PE pressure pipes for drinking water distribution
Wavin PE pressure pipes are designed for safe, durable drinking water distribution, offering strong long-term performance and flexibility across water infrastructure networks.
